SPEECH & HEARING SCIENCES (BL-SPHS-IUBLA)

The Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) is IU's home base for this interdisciplinary field with roots in psychology, physiology, physics, music, linguistics, and education.Our faculty conduct clinical, translational, and basic research within three broad areas: Speech, Language, and Hearing. Their research reflects training and expertise in a very wide range of areas, including psychology, linguistics, physiology, and engineering.

Department Specific Responsibilities:

• Will serve as primary contact for all patients, IU departments, and insurance entities with regard to Clinic financial inquiries while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality
• With minimal supervision, perform financial, accounting, and administrative tasks related to the operation of the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic.
• Perform data entry, maintain records of Clinic financial transactions, compile data, and prepare and disseminate monthly reports.
• Oversee processing of documents into the University's financial software (KFS)
• Provide guidance to front office Clinical Service Assistant staff with regard to patient record data entry processes
• Process and post daily, all forms of AR (bank deposits, mail-in payments, refunds, recoupments, insurance payments, electronic payments, Bursar) in the Clinic EMR software
• Assist patients by phone and in-person with inquiries regarding charges, billing, and insurance.
• Reconcile Clinic financial information and prepare monthly reports in IU KFS software
• Prepare reports for Clinic Directors, Clinic Business Office Manager and Fiscal Officer using Clinic EMR software as needed

General Responsibilities

• With minimal supervision, performs financial and administrative tasks related to processing financial or other administrative records.
• Takes on more complex assignments and provides guidance to lower-level Financial Administration Coordinators.
• Maintains records of financial transactions, compiles data, and prepares reports. May oversee the processing of documents into the university's central information systems (Travel, KFS, HRMS, etc.).
• Investigates and resolves discrepancies that require more advanced knowledge and experience; following policies and procedures, recommends audits.
• Assists in designing, documenting, and implementing processes.
• Processes payroll and verifies accuracy of payroll information. Verifies accuracy of adjustments to payroll including supplements and garnishments.
• Monitors financial accounts and ensures timely payments are made to payees.
• Responds to inquiries regarding financial and/or personnel policies and procedures; takes the lead on the most complex cases within their scope of work.
• Serves as liaison to department and/or other university divisions.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
