ACCOUNTANT II
Navopache Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NEC)
NEC is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Accountant. NEC is situated within the White Mountains of Arizona, 180 miles NE of Phoenix. It is a place of beautiful scenery and mild climate, with a small community atmosphere where you know your neighbors. The area abounds in opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing and other outdoors sports.
RESPONSIBILITIES: To keep record of financial transactions and assist in financial statement preparation.
Duties Include:
- Provide assistance to all interested parties regarding accounting requirements.
Accounts Payable:
- Check invoices for accuracy
- Process various check runs
- Process and maintain credit cards and electronic payments
- Prepare 1099’s annually
General Ledger
- Post to General Ledger as required.
- Maintain assigned supporting ledgers and balance same to General Ledger.
- Prepare and maintain journal entries.
- Assist in month end close procedures
Material Inventory
- Review & approve Material Inventory journals
- Responsible for closing material – monthly.
- Assist with periodic & annual physical inventories
Work Orders
- Review work orders for proper application.
- Closing work orders upon completion.
Asset Management
- Maintain depreciation schedules.
- Responsible for the accounting of all utility plant.
- Responsible for Special Equipment.
Cash Accounts
- Reconcile Cash Register activity to deposits
- Reconcile cash vault deposits to bank activity
- Prepare bank reconciliations to general ledger balances
Payroll
- Process payroll including timesheets, payroll checks, and supporting reports.
- Prepare and file quarterly payroll reports.
- Prepare W2’s and file appropriate reports.
Miscellaneous Receivables
- Prepare miscellaneous invoices.
- Monitor receivables on miscellaneous invoices.
Prepare and assist in making reporting for Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT)
Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
Perform analysis work as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Formal Education
- BA in Accounting or BS in Accountancy.
- Must satisfactorily complete the RUS Borrower Accounting course within one year from start of position.
Previous Job Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience in general accounting.
Special Skills
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures desirable with a thorough understanding of accounting.
- Possess good communication skills.
- Possess ability to handle a variety of tasks to to meet varying deadlines with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Possess legible handwriting.
- Ability to operate office machines proficiently and accurately including calculator, copy machine, fax, PC, etc.
- Attend various training courses, etc. periodically, as recommended by management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Access.
- Have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License within 30 days of employment.
HOURS OF OPERATION: 4/10s The cooperative is currently on a 4/10 schedule (Monday through Thursday).
SALARY: Commensurate on qualifications.
