This position provides support to the Executive Director and the team of clinicians at Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago (CCCOC). The Medical Biller works closely with the Intake Coordinator to manage client billing accounts and insurance claim submissions, client account collections, insurance verifications, and the application of electronic and manual claims.
Direct Program Service
Report all medical services through our Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) and the Clearing House.
Oversee or directly manage all client billing accounts to ensure accurate billing details and defaults are established from the start of therapy, including checking accurate deductions and payments after first visit.
Manage receivables from both clients and insurance.
Produce and submit claims to insurance companies in a timely manner and with accuracy.
Review and appeal unpaid and denied claims.
Work directly with the insurance company and client to ensure collection action is completed on unpaid accounts and the responsible party pays, including, if necessary, producing client statements.
Review and research client accounts to identify errors with claims or payments received.
Ensure corrected claims are created and sent to the payer in a timely manner.
Review account information and explain charges as well as other related inquiries from patients and insurance carriers, while complying with HIPAA guidelines.
Assist patients with all financial issues and billing questions according to policies.
Generate patient statements and following up through emails, telephone calls, and letter and statement writing with patient.
Work with Intake Coordinator to verify client eligibility and benefits prior to their start of therapy, or as needed, and inform Intake Department, patient and therapist of coverage information.
Complete appropriate paperwork, documentation, system entry regarding claim and encounter information.
Support and participate in process and quality improvement initiatives.
Manage Accounts Receivable reports as assigned for a clean Accounts Receivables report.
Collaborate with our accounting outsourcing firm for an accurate A/R report.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Actively participate in weekly intake meetings.
Follow all Policies and Procedures of CCCOC both administrative and clinical.
Responsible to perform other duties as required assisting CCCOC in achieving its mission.
Supervisor(s): This position reports directly to the Clinical Director and Executive Director and works collaboratively with the Intake Coordinator and Office Coordinator

Sick leave, Holidays, and Vacation days per the Center’s Policy and Procedure Manual
Option for health insurance coverage after 90 days. Center pays at 50% for monthly premium for employee.
PTO time is earned after 90-day probationary period) at 1 day per month. Sick leave is prorated at 5 days a year after 90-day probationary period.
Formal evaluations at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.
Furnished office space, telephone, fax, copier, a computer, business cards, and access to internet services.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, and minimum two years experience of medical billing experience, mental health preferred. Complete billing program to understand the fundamentals of handling confidential patient information (PHI).
Knowledge of Medical terminology: CPT, ICD-11, HCFA, EOB etc.
A firm grasp of web-based billing software or flexibility learning new billing programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
An above average aptitude with internet / computer use.
Must have excellent problem solving abilities.
Must be very detail oriented.
Must be able to work in a positive environment.
Must be self-starting, able to work well independently.
Must be able to learn new concepts and processes quickly.
Must be well organized, able to use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.

Schedule: Full-time for 40 hours a week
Option of working on Saturday or 2 late evening per week
