This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.  

This position is in the Department of Neurology.  The position is located at the Mid Campus Center.  This position is for the Medical School Campus.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Position will provide support for medical coding and billing in the Department of Neurology’s Medical Billing Office.  Support includes reviewing medical record documentation to identify all pertinent facts necessary to select the comprehensive diagnoses and procedure codes that fully describe patient medical conditions & treatment, charge entry, and providing backup to the coding team as necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Code evaluation & management services and procedures to appropriate CPT code and codes diagnoses to appropriate ICD-10 codes for neuromuscular lab.
2. Ensure all charges are captured and billed in a timely manner.
3. Communicate with physicians, clinical staff, and external partners to review documentation and resolve coding and charge entry questions.
4. Adhere to appropriate coding rules, physician regulations, and billing guidelines and follow departmental policies.
5. Act as a back-up for coders, appeals analysts & various positions during peak vacation times, staff shortages, etc. for charge entry functions and appeals follow up functions. 
6. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

• Equivalent of a high school diploma.
• Three to five years of previous billing or insurance experience.

• Two years of college or business school.
• Working knowledge of electronic health system, medical billing system, CPT & ICD-10 coding.
• Some knowledge of laboratory practices and billing.
• Ability to be a team player, detail-oriented, and possess the ability to meet specific deadlines.
• One year of coding experience.
• Attention to detail and good organization skills.
• Ability to work well independently with limited supervision.
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with computer applications (EMR, MS Office, etc.).
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge and experience about medical test billing.

The hiring range for this position is $18.81 - $23.52 per hour.
