Department/College Description The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of RIT. We are a team-oriented, highly collaborative Division working with all areas of the university to maximize fundraising opportunities and alumni involvement.
Detailed Job Description The Financial Operations Director for Development and Alumni Relations manages the daily financial and fiscal operations for the division's $12 million budget and in working closely with the University's Finance and Administration Division ensures that DAR complies with all financial policies and internal controls. Included in these responsibilities is special financial oversight for the Joseph M. Lobozzo Alumni House. Serves in a leadership role in the Administrative Management and Assessment department and regularly advises the division's Senior Leadership.
Directs all division accounts payable activities and develops comprehensive divisional accounting processes and records to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and compliance nature of the transactions.
Oversees and reconciles the university's gift suspense account including analysis and reporting for the institute's electronic payment gateways and the university's alumni event system.
Directs the financial operations of the Lobozzo Alumni House ensuring that UBIT, revenue, and accounts payables/receivables are accurate and compliant.
Supervises the financial analyst and students serving as budget and financial assistants.
Supervises the work of the financial analyst in developing spending plans for the division's gift and project accounts to fulfill annual spending expectations and ensure donor compliance.
Compiles reports and communications for the division's budget activities including analyzing and reviewing monthly budget reconciliation sheets and preparing monthly budget analyses and projections.
Manages monthly and year-end closings for the division.
Manages specialized spending accounts such as capital, campaign and presidential activity accounts.
Prepares ad-hoc reports for the vice president and senior leadership of the division with emphasis on continuous improvement and cost containment for the division's fiscal operations.
Develops and facilitates divisional financial policies and procedures and provides financial guidance to divisional staff.
Interacts with campus-wide staff as needed to coordinate inter-departmental financial transactions.
Maintains business acumen around current accounting and non-profit trends and best practices.
Required Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of 7 years related experience in a financial setting with demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, budgets, accounts payables
Bachelors degree required: Accounting, Business or related field. Master's preferred.
Experience analyzing financial data and coordinating and managing financial projects
Advance level user of Excel and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Windows applications
Demonstrated knowledge of Oracle or other financial accounting system
Professional experience in analyzing work flow processes, diagnosing redundancies, identifying current technologies with emphasis toward improving work productivity in operational areas
Aptitude toward learning new technologies with emphasis on improving operational and fiscal procedures
Ability to use judgement in order to problem solve easily and communicate procedures and develop job aides in an effective manner
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Excellent customer service skills
Previous management experience or team lead experience
Knowledge of data visualization and dash boarding applications
