Works on multiple platforms to obtain benefit verification and authorization from insurers to facilitate prompt and appropriate payment for hospital services. Collects payments and educates patients about the Financial Assistance Program.Primary Responsibilities:Utilizes PAI system to complete complex elective, urgent and / or preregistration work lists of accountsContacts insurers to verify patients' insurance benefits, utilizes insurance websites and other means of electronic insurance verification (HDX) to obtain all information necessary for securing patient accounts (coordination of benefits, benefit coverage / limits, copay / deductible amounts, and authorization)Obtains and accurately records patient demographic and insurance information in the hospital's registration system and PAI to facilitate appropriate billing for multiple unitsSecures authorizations for admissions and procedures when necessaryCommunicates professionally and courteously with patients and family members while obtaining or clarifying demographic information and / or insurance benefits and / or financial responsibilityCommunicates the hospitals collection policy and collects self-pay and copay obligationsUtilizes Health Pay 24 to collect paymentsEducates uninsured / under insured patients about the Financial Assistance ProgramInsures high quality information is recorded in systems at all times
Required Qualifications:High School Diploma / GEDMust be able to work 10:00 am - 6:00 pm weekdays and weekends with the flexibility to adjust daily schedule, and work over-time and / or weekends and holidays, as neededProficiency with Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applicationsExperience with Microsoft Word - Create correspondence and work within templates. Microsoft Excel - Data entry, sort / filter, and work within tables1+ years of experience in a medical settingPreferred Qualifications:Experience in healthcare insurance verification and pre-registration skills that include web-based benefit retrieval and admission notificationKnowledge of medical terminology, and a broad understanding of medical insurance laws and guidelines, insurance policy, coverage types, hospital billing procedures and payment policiesCareers with OptumInsight.
